Players First: Coaching from the Inside Out by John Calipari

It’s also very interesting to learn about how Calipari recruits players, most of them expecting to play college ball for only one year before leaving for the NBA. He talks about how he builds relationships with his players, focusing on honesty and always keeping his promises to them.

A Coach's Life: My Forty Years in College Basketball by Dean Smith

In this book, Coach Smith reflects on his career by highlighting some of the most important games, players, teams, strategies that he used. This book is filled with basketball, but touches on many of the things we sometimes forget - that there’s more to life than just basketball.

The Champion’s Mind: How Great Athletes Think, Train, and Thrive by Jim Afremow

Athletes at every level across every sport want to find that edge to excel. In this book, you learn the same advice from Sports Psychologist Jim Afremow that he shares with olympians, professional athletes, and amateurs. He teaches techniques for getting you and your players “in the zone” to turn on peak performance at the moment you need it.

Furious George: My Forty Years Surviving NBA Divas, Clueless GMs, and Poor Shot Selection by George Karl

George Karl is known as one of the most outspoken and combative coaches in NBA history, but also one of the winningest. He is full of stories of life coaching NBA players and teams, and he’s not shy to share some of the dark sides of the coaching world as well. He also talks about the resilience needed to keep battling back from his three bouts with cancer.
